Franz Wanner. Mind the Memory Gap

In his current exhibition Mind the Memory Gap at the KINDL - Centre for Contemporary Art in Berlin, Franz Wanner (*1975 in Bad Tölz) examines the current effects of the mass exploitation of forced laborers under National Socialism. Using photographs, texts, films and objects, the artist creates a narrative about social continuities from the Nazi era to the present day and identifies gaps in Germany's culture of remembrance. The impact of Nazi forced labor on our present day is addressed, as are attempts to "clean up" history - for example by removing a former Nazi forced labor camp in Ottobrunn.

Arsenal is presenting the films by Franz Wanner as part of the Harun Farocki Institute residency program alongside older films on this topic. With the support of the Farocki Forum at the Department of Film Studies at the University of Zurich.
